Internet Governance Related Activities

This year, I have had the opportunity to participate at a few Internet governance related events.

First, a couple of fellowships. I am a NextGen@ICANN69. ICANN69 was to be held in Hamburg, Germany from 17 – 22 October 2020. It will be held online instead. I am also one of the 30 Internet Society IGF Youth Ambassadors 2020.

Second, I had the opportunity to be a part of the Youth Dialogue on Internet Governance (YOUthDIG) fellowship program. The program took the form of six webinars with discussions that were eventually turned into youth messages. The program culminated with the participation in European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) from 10 – 12 June 2020. It was held online (originally scheduled to take place in Trieste, Italy). EuroDIG is a platform for multi-stakeholder discussion on Internet-related public policy issues. I was one of the participants who presented the YouthDIG messages. Here is the video on Youtube. I was also part of the organizing team of three workshops at EuroDIG 2020.

Third, I was a fellow at European Summer School on Internet Governance (EuroSSIG) 2020 in Meissen, Germany from 19 – 25 July 2020. EuroSSIG brought together fellows and faculty from around the world (many of them online) to discuss political and legal aspects of the Internet. Although some technical aspects of the Internet and the applications built on it were discussed, the discussions on the political aspects and the human rights concerns were of greater interest to me at EuroSSIG.

Fourth, I attended IETF-108 online. It was supposed to be organized in Madrid from 27 – 31 July, 2020. I enjoyed participating in both IETF and IRTF meetings. I presented Limiting the Power of RPKI Authorities at Applied Networking Research Workshop, co-located with IETF-108. See Blog post and video on Youtube.

Finally, I am a working group member for Sustainable Internet Governance as part of Youth4DigitalSustainability. We will work on policy recommendations that will be presented to the United Nation’s Internet Governance Forum 2020.
